Elegy by Maggie Olson

Father,

your passing punched a hole

 through the world

so wide

I can still hear the vacuum in space

you left behind

struggling to fill back in with air.

It’s an emptiness that can never truly fill,

but be forgotten

as all those who love you

follow you through that last doorway

leaving little holes and vacuums of our own.
